About SAPNA

Original logo.png

SAPNA (South Asian Parents of Northwest Atlanta) was founded as a community association in the Spring of 2011 to meet the cultural needs of the increasingly expansive South Asian community in the Atlanta suburbs. We formed a parents’ network to foster cultural awareness in school-aged children by exposing them to South Asian traditions and elements of their heritage on a regular basis, primarily through a monthly, parent-led Sunday School.

SAPNA is a parent-led organization. Our mission is to educate our children about the rich culture and traditions of South Asia, and we need to draw upon all of our experiences as the diaspora of South Asia to give them the most complete picture of and pride in their heritage.

We are looking for involvement from parents to teach classes, help with event planning and organization, and make suggestions to the classes and curriculum. SAPNA can only be successful with the participation of parents and families. Each family is required to sign up to co-teach one class as part of the registration process.

We are working to build a community for our kids. We cannot do this without you! It takes a village!

At this time, SAPNA School classes are for kids 5 and up only. School is usually held in a rented indoor classroom or outdoor facilities in East Cobb.  Classes will be one Sunday of every month, with some classes being family events in observance of cultural festivals. Parent participation is a cornerstone of SAPNA. We depend on you and your knowledge and experiences from different parts of South Asia to help our children gain a well-rounded understanding of their South Asian Heritage.  We are looking for volunteers to teach classes as well as help with the Garba and Holi programs. Please sign up on our Sign Up Genius Link to volunteer.

Annual Family Membership dues cover materials for classes, space rental, and admission for your core family (2 adults and your kids) to select SAPNA family events. If you would like to become a member, please click on the SAPNA membership link below to fill in a form and pay dues.

Non-members may also have the opportunity to attend events if space permits once members have RSVPed.  There will be admission fees charged for non-members. If you are not interested in attending the SAPNA classes and would like to be put on the email list for events information, please click the Events Only button below.

We believe children are more confident when they feel like part of a community, and understand more about their culture and identity.

Our Vision

Our vision is for South Asian children in East Cobb and beyond to celebrate what makes them different, feel more connected to their South Asian heritage, better understand their bi-cultural upbringing as South Asians and Americans, and recognize they are part of a community of people who share a similar background and experiences.
